Cavanders “Ancient Egypt” Cigarette Card #8 “Egyptian Goddess Ma”. Produced in 1928.
Text on reverse of card reads:
“Ma, the Egyptian goddess of truth, was usually figured in the ordinary form of a standing goddess.
Sometimes she was shown sitting, and sometimes standing, with huge wings which projected in front of her body to a considerable distance. In this guise she was often double, as the Egyptians were in the habit of representing truth as twofold.
Ma was considered a daughter of Ra, and was worshipped with him. The chief judge in each subordinate court is said to have worn an image of Ma, and to have touched with the image the litigant in whose favour he decided.”
