Cavanders “Ancient Egypt” Cigarette Card #22 “Winnowing Corn”. Produced in 1928.
Text on reverse of card reads:
“The Corn was first threshed by the treading of cattle, which were driven round and round the threshing floor, while a labourer with a pitchfork threw the unthreshed ears into their path.
The threshed Corn was then winnowed by being tossed in- to the air with shovels in a draughty place, so that while the Corn fell, the chaff was blown off. The cleansed Corn was collected into sacks and carried to the granary, where it was stored until required for use.”
