Cavanders “Ancient Egypt” Cigarette Card #19 “Egyptian Standards”

SKU: EM548.19 Categories: , , ,

Cavanders “Ancient Egypt” Cigarette Card #19 “Egyptian Standards”. Produced in 1928.

Text on reverse of card reads:

“Every battalion, and indeed every company of the Egyptian Army possessed its own ensign, which was conspicuously different from all the others. These were used to prevent confusion, and that the members of each corps might have a visible rallying point.
The ensigns were not embroidered on flags, but consisted of solid objects which were borne aloft at the top of tall poles. Most of them were of a religious character, representing either the head or ark of a god, or a sacred animal, or some religious emblem. Some of the standards had two streamers attached.”
