“The occupation of Scribe was regarded as one befitting men from the middle ranks of Egyptian society.
The posts under government occupied by Scribes included some of great importance, as those of Ambassador, Superintendent of Store-houses, Registrar of the Docks, Clerk of the Closet, Keeper of the Royal Library, Scribe of the Double House of Life, etc.”
