Wills’s Cigarettes “Wonders of the Past” Cigarette Card #9 “The Pyramids of Gizeh”

Produced in 1926 by W. D. & H. O. Wills.

Issued by The Imperial Tobacco Company (of Great Britain & Ireland) Ltd.

Text on reverse of card reads:

“Of all the achievements of the ancient world none represents such astounding labour and incalculable skill as the triad of royal tombs known as the Pyramids of Gizeh. And yet they were built about 2900 B.C. They are not the only Pyramids in Egypt, but are far the most imposing. Their purpose, about which absurd theories have been current, was to protect the tomb-chamber of the king from desecration, and to this end practically all the labour of Egypt must have- been conscripted. From left to right in this photograph, and increasing in age and height in the same order, they were erected by Pharaohs Menkaura, Khafra, and Khufu.”
