Wills’s Cigarettes “Wonders of the Past” Cigarette Card #8 “The Great Pyramid of Cheops”

Produced in 1926 by W. D. & H. O. Wills.

Issued by The Imperial Tobacco Company (of Great Britain & Ireland) Ltd.

Text on reverse of card reads:

“Khufu (B.C. 288-2875), or Cheops to give him his Greek name, of the Fourth Dynasty of Egyptian kings, was responsible for building the greatest and oldest of the three mountains of hewn stone called the Gizeh Pyramids. This, the most gigantic tomb ever built by man, measures 755 feet 8 inches along each of its four sides, and would be 481 feet high if the top were not missing. Some of the blocks weigh 16 tons, and fit so accurately that a knife blade cannot be forced between them. The whole was cased in smooth limestone. There are two chambers in the core of the pyramid and one in the rock beneath.”
