Wills’s Cigarettes “Wonders of the Past” Cigarette Card #5 “Mummy-case and Mummy”

Produced in 1926 by W. D. & H. O. Wills.

Issued by The Imperial Tobacco Company (of Great Britain & Ireland) Ltd.

Text on reverse of card reads:

“The earliest known Egyptian mummy dates from 2750 B.C.. but experiments in mummification had been made long before. Since that date the progress made in the art can be traced, greater and greater success being attained in preserving the corpse, until about 1350 B.C. when the kings of the Nineteenth Dynasty were treated with such skill that their characters can be read in their faces with ease to-day. After that, greater elaborations were introduced, but the art declined; though it was practised as late as 200 A.D., as the mummy of a Greek on the right shows, Left. a mummy case from 800 B.C. Both are in the British Museum.”
