Wills’s Cigarettes “Wonders of the Past” Cigarette Card #32 “Solomon’s Temple at Jerusalem”
Produced in 1926 by W. D. & H. O. Wills.
Issued by The Imperial Tobacco Company (of Great Britain & Ireland) Ltd.
Text on reverse of card reads:
“Of all the famous buildings of antiquity, the mighty Temple of Solomon at Jerusalem is perhaps the hardest to reconstruct owing to the disasters that have overwhelmed the site. And to-day the ground is occupied by the so-called Mosque of Omar, rendering excavation impossible. We know that on the threshing floor of Araunah, where David his father had built an altar, Solomon with the help of Hiram, King of Tyre, erected the first fixed House of the Lord, glorious with cedarwood and brass; and by following descriptions in I. Kings and Ezekiel, as well as evidences from the site, this reconstruction has been made.”
