Wills’s Cigarettes “Wonders of the Past” Cigarette Card #12 “Treasure from Tutankhamen’s Tomb”
Produced in 1926 by W. D. & H. O. Wills.
Issued by The Imperial Tobacco Company (of Great Britain & Ireland) Ltd.
Text on reverse of card reads:
“Ancient Egyptian kings were buried with their choicest treasures in the belief that they would enjoy them m the After- life. Tutankhamen, the discovery of whose 3,000-year-old tomb was an event that stirred the world, was no exception; and this is one of the marvels that were found heaped pell-mell in the antechamber to his underground grave. Forming the side-support to a couch, it represents a fabulous monster of Egyptian legend, half hippopotamus and half crocodile. It is of wood gilded all over, while ivory was used for the teeth and curling tongue, the latter stained a lifelike pink.”
