Text on reverse of card reads:

“The splendours of Rome in the days of the emperors -the opening centuries of our era – probably exceeded any spectacle that a city has afforded before or since. By the early days of this era the time- hallowed Forum, or legal, civic and social centre of Rome, had become too small for the growing city, and successive emperors built magnificent courts and Fora adjoining. This is the Forum of Trajan, restored, with his memorial column (which is still standing) in the background. The latter is covered with a spiral relief showing the events of the Dacian wars. The Forum was made by levelling a spur of the Quirinal Hill.”
