Cavanders “Ancient Egypt” Cigarette Card #20 “Egyptian God Bes”. Produced in 1928.

Text on reverse of card reads:

“Bes was represented as a hideous dwarf and is thought by some to be a form of Set, by others to be the “Egyptian God of Death.” He is sometimes seen armed with a sword or swords, and is even found in the act of slaying persons.
He was worshipped at Thebes, at Tentyris, and in Ethiopia. Bronze images of Bes are common, and appear sometimes to connect him with the moon.”
