Donate an object to us
Are you interested in donating an object to The Egyptomania Museum Collection? We would like to hear from you.
You may have an item in your possession that you think might be suitable for our collection. Before you get in touch, please read the below information carefully.
What types of objects do we accept?
We accept most types of objects, usually made between 1500 and the present, that would be classed as ‘Egyptomania’ (items that show Egyptian or Egyptianising designs and motifs). These could include:
- Jewellery of any age
- Make-up and perfume, and their packaging
- Clothing with Egyptian motifs
- Decorative ceramics and glassware
- Architectural elements (i.e. doorknockers)
- Furniture
- Domestic items (i.e. crockery, cookware etc)
- Artworks
- Commercial ephemera (i.e. advertisement posters)
- Collectable items (i.e. cigarette cards)
- Commercial packaging (i.e. cigarette packets)
- Political papers and cartoons
We may accept:
- ancient material, only where legal provenance can be proven and there is a strong story associated

What if your object is damaged?
The condition of the object is not important, for us its the stories the object can tell us that matters. If you have a dirty, cracked, broken, damaged or partial object we will still consider the donation.
Your object will be loved, cherished and most importantly will help contribute to our understanding of western obsession with ancient Egyptian culture. Where possible we may also seek to conserve, repair or restore broken items.
Before you contact us
Please be aware that:
- We are unable to give valuations.
- We don’t accept items on long-term loan.
- We can’t accept items with specific conditions attached.

What happens if we accept your item?
We Will always try to accept items that fulfil the criteria in our collecting policy. If we do:
- We will always try to store your donated item under the most appropriate environmental conditions.
- We may be display your donated item in temporary exhibitions, or loan to other institutions.
- We will always make your donated item available for research to the public.
What if we do not accept your item?
We can’t take everything that is offered to us, so if we don’t accept your item, please don’t be offended. It may be for one of the following reasons:
- We already have a similar item in our collection – though duplicates are always welcome.
- The item doesn’t meet the criteria of our collecting policy – we tend to only accept items with a clear Egypt link.
- The item isn’t in good condition – though to us the story is important, so we wouldn’t discard a damaged item.
If your item is not suitable for us, we’ll try to advise you of another museum or organisation which may be interested.
